What is Vampyre Magick & Vampyrecraft?
What is Vampyre Magick?
Vampyre Magick has become the umbrella term for all things esoteric that gets practiced by the vampyre occultist. Everything from Michelle Belanger & the Kheprians to Michael W. Ford and his Akhkharu work. To the Temple of the Vampire’s rites to the Order of the Vampyre’s work. Most famously, Father Sebastiaan & his Elorathian Current have boosted Vampyric practice into pop culture.
“Vampyre Magick” is a modern magickal style & tradition that blends elements of ceremonial magic, shamanism, witchcraft, & sometimes New Orleans voodoo. It heavily emphasizes ceremony & ritual + astral & energetic aspects of vampyrism. You can trace the roots of many popular vampyric systems back to well known LHP & Ceremonial influences like The Golden Dawn, Temple of the Vampire, Church of Satan, Temple of Set, and so on and so forth.
What is Vampyrecraft?
Vampyrecraft is the spiritual practices of the Pagan Vampyre Witch. Typically it is a chaos magick style of Pagan belief, pieced together through the instinct and trial & error of the practitioner themselves.
Much like the phrase “traditional witchcraft”, it’s a mixed bag what you’re going to get when it comes to the beliefs and practices of each Vampyre Witch, but Vampyrecraft does have some similarities and typical things you can find underneath of the Vampyrecraft umbrella.
The difference between most Vampyre Magick and VampyreCraft is the innately Pagan Witchcraft influences that Vampyrecraft aligns itself with. Vampyrecraft is typically an animistic, energetic, intuitive, and often ecstatic Pagan practice that leans towards the direction of heavier, “darker” chthonic energy & spirit work.
VampyreCraft is also the exploration and understanding of the vampyric phenomenon as something synonymously transpiring in your magickal journey, not something separate. It is the willful dissection and integration of your shadow to transcend above the negative frequency we can and sometimes do exist on. It is the alignment of the vampyric spirit deep within our souls, peeling back the layers of social conditioning until we are able to freely live as a mirror of our true spiritual selves. Or, as close to it as you can get without having a negative impact on your dayside life. Remember, balance is key in all things.
Where did Vampyrecraft come from?
Historically speaking, the concept of Vampyrecraft seems to stem from a group in Alabama called House Scarlet Moon, housed within the Shadows and Light Shoppe – A Metaphysical Shop that once existed in Decatur Alabama.
The earliest mention of Vampyrecraft we have found comes from a webpage saved to the WaybackMachine from April 2001 – You can see it here. (It’s pretty tough to read, grey text on a white background)
Practitioners of Vampyrecraft back then were described as
“psychic or sanguine vampyres who are Wiccans/Witches or Neo-Pagan Practitioners of Magick who rely on their natural abilities of energy manipulations and clairvoyance to aid in their magickal workings.”
They go on to explain
“Unlike non-vampiric practitioners, Vampyres tend to be able to access their natural abilities and instantly shield or banish any unwanted energies. Therefore, purification of the sacred space for rituals is not a lengthy process or focus – Vampyres tend to simply ignore or dismiss any metaphysical properties by their own will. There is less spellwork involved in VampyreCraft. Instead, Vampyres can visualize their goals, gather energy from outside sources, and focus and project their own energies faster than it took me to compose this sentence.”
The Sanguinarium once described Vampyrcraft as:
“this is the magick practiced by vampyres. Many vampyres are pagan and follow the old ways, and the ways of magick are an integral part of their beliefs. Most vampyres practice numerous techniques associated with energy manipulation. Vampyrcraft refers to the magickal techniques specifically designed by vampires to take advantage of their unique abilities. Vampyrecraft often has a dark flavor to it, although in general it is more of a balance between dark and light techniques.”
These descriptions all come from the early years of the internet. The earliest mentions of Vampyrecraft describe it as a Wiccan-adjacent current, speaking on morality and ethics that mimick the rule of 3. However, despite Vampyrecraft’s earliest mentions that we’ve found going all the way back to 2001, the practice & the term Vampyrecraft didn’t gain a whole lot of popularity. Throughout VC history, the concept of “Vampyrecraft” has been an underutilized one, not carrying forward heavily into the future. “Vampyre Magick” became the common catchall.
Vampyrecraft Today
Nowadays, the Vampyrecraft current is a more Left Hand Path leaning chthonic Pagan style of chaos magick. It is the art of mastering the social & occult abilities of the vampyre, honing our natural and learned sensitivities to morph ourselves into the perfect mix of beauty & beast. We evoke the effortless power of the Vampyre within ourselves, able to manifest and manipulate our realities according to our desires.
The Vampyre is not afraid to indulge in the dark and the decadent. We revel in our nightside and feel at home in spaces that celebrate the Underworld. We excavate our shadows and understand them to be powerful allies when we learn to integrate what would otherwise be shunned. We take our power back from the world and hold on to it with pride. We use our power to hold others accountable. We are sometimes the Karma that is forced to keep the balance.
We become one with the beast within. We understand the magick of the primal predator and unleashing the beast inside with skillful control is one of our most powerful assets.
